About Silver Helper

Silver Helper publishes free reference pages about working days, business days and public holidays, plus the calculators that answer the same questions for any pair of dates. Everything on the site is derived from one written counting rule and one open holiday dataset, so a reader can reproduce every number by hand.

What the site covers

For 18 countries and the years 2026 and 2027 the site publishes, per country: how many business days each month and each year contains, which public holidays reduce that count, when each holiday falls and whether it is nationwide, regional or sector-specific. Two calculators turn the same rule into an answer for any dates you choose.

The counting rule used everywhere on this site

A business day is Monday to Friday, minus the public holidays that apply to the country as a whole. Regional, sector-specific, employer-specific and "optional" holidays are listed in the tables but are not subtracted, so the published figure stays reproducible; subtract them yourself if they apply to you. Saturday and Sunday are never counted as business days, even where a country occasionally works them.

Two consequences of that rule are worth stating plainly. First, where a holiday falls on a weekend the site does not invent a substitute day unless the country's own list contains one. Second, the two scopes are published side by side: the nationwide count that drives the headline figure, and the count that would result from subtracting every date in the holiday list. When the two differ, the page says so instead of hiding it.

Where the holiday data comes from

Holiday dates come from the open-source Nager.Date dataset (nager.at), which is free to use and covers the countries listed here. The dataset carries a flag for whether a holiday applies nationwide; where that flag does not match the rule a country actually uses, this site does not follow the flag blindly. The United States is the clearest case: the site computes the 11 federal holidays from the federal rules instead of using the dataset's flag, because several entries in that dataset are state-level holidays rather than federal ones.

How the numbers are checked

Nothing is published from a single implementation. The page counts are produced by one program, and the calculators are produced by a second, independent JavaScript implementation that runs in your browser. A test compares the two across every country, year and month the site covers — hundreds of cells — and any disagreement fails the build rather than shipping. When a page and its calculator once disagreed by a single day, the site was rebuilt to a single rule and the mismatch was written into that test. Every page lists the exact dates it subtracted, so the arithmetic can be checked without trusting either program.

Editorial policy

Each country page carries two layers with different shelf lives. The data layer (dates, weekday names, business-day counts) is regenerated from the holiday dataset each time an annual calendar settles, and the sitemap dates change with it. The editorial layer — the sections explaining how a country's holiday system actually works — is written against the statutory framework in force as of October 2026: the named acts, article numbers and counting rules cited there (for example Spain's Workers' Statute Article 37, Germany's Basic Law Article 140 incorporating Weimar Article 139, the US 5 U.S.C. § 6103) are public legal texts, not blog claims. When a law changes, the affected pages are rewritten, not patched silently.

We do not publish advice dressed as reference material: the pages state what the law and the dataset say, and where two scopes of the same rule give different numbers, both are shown.

Who runs this site

Silver Helper is an independent, automatically generated reference site. It is not affiliated with any government, tax authority, employer or payroll provider, and it is not a source of legal or payroll advice: public holidays change, employers add days of their own, and your contract is the authority on your working days, not this site.

How the site is funded

The site is funded by display advertising. Advertisers have no influence on the numbers and no page is paid placement. If you find a wrong or missing holiday date, say so and it will be fixed.
